Emergency Alert (March 12, 2008) - The MOTHERS ACT is a bill before the Senate that could be passed at any time, already passed by the House, which sets up a nation-wide screening and education campaign to encourage the use of antidepressant drugs and other psychiatric drugs to pregnant and new moms. This is a blatant Big Pharma marketing effort that will expose mothers and babies to dangerous and unproven medications- completely paid for by you the taxpayer!
These drugs have recently been shown to be ineffective at treating almost any kind of depression. These medications will cross the placenta in pregnant women and accumulate in the breast milk of nursing mothers - conducting a cruel experiment on the youngest and most vulnerable members in our society.
This atrocity must be stopped.
